Dermalux: Is LED Light Therapy Worth It?

Jun 20, 2023

Do you want to give your complexion a new lease of life without invasive skin care treatments? Dermalux uses LED light therapy to promote glowing skin. Read on to learn how Dermalux works and if it could be the perfect procedure for you.

What is Dermalux and what can it be used for?

Dermalux Flex MD LED Phototherapy (otherwise known as Dermalux or LED light therapy) is a non-invasive skin care treatment that uses light energy to rejuvenate and repair your skin. It’s an effective option for a range of conditions, from acne and rosacea to fine lines and wrinkles. It can also target age spots and sun damage.

You can choose to combine LED light therapy with other skin care treatments or benefit from it as a standalone procedure.

How does LED light therapy work?

Dermalux uses different wavelengths of light to achieve different results. For instance, it can increase collagen production to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, minimise inflammation and redness, or improve the overall texture and tone of your complexion.

The process of LED light therapy is fairly straightforward. During a procedure, your skin will be exposed to low-level light energy. Varying light wavelengths penetrate deep into the skin and activate natural cellular processes.

At the Dr Nestor cosmetic clinic, we use the Dermalux ‘Flex’ model, which is medically certified to treat acne and psoriasis and to promote wound healing and pain relief.

There are three main types of light we use during a Dermalux session:

Red light

This type of light is ideal for renewing the complexion and plumping up the skin. It energises cells to promote collagen and elastin production and also hydrates. As well as revitalising the skin, red light can also relieve joint and muscular pain.

Blue light

Do you want to improve your skin’s clarity? If you’re prone to acne or excess oil, blue light can help keep sebum levels under control and calm bacterial conditions.

Infrared light

If you want to minimise redness, then infrared light is a great option. It can calm irritation and reduce pigmentation, making it an ideal skin care treatment for rosacea.

Is Dermalux painful?

Nope! LED light therapy is painless and, unlike treatments such as Botox, it doesn’t require any downtime or lifestyle changes. This makes Dermalux an excellent cosmetic choice if you have a busy schedule. It’s non-invasive, meaning you won’t need to go under the knife or have any anaesthetic.

During a Dermalux LED light therapy session, your cosmetic practitioner will place a light-emitting device close to the skin for a set amount of time. This will usually be 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the results you’re looking for.

How many Dermalux LED light therapy sessions will I need?

As with many cosmetic procedures, the number of Dermalux sessions you’ll need will vary depending on your skin condition and concerns. In most cases, we recommend around 6-12 sessions — either weekly, or fortnightly, again depending on your unique circumstances.

Some people may see improvement in their skin after just a few sessions, while others may require more treatments to see significant results. It’s important to note that the results of Dermalux LED light therapy are cumulative — meaning that each treatment builds upon the previous one to provide greater improvement in skin health and appearance. As such, it’s essential to ensure consistency throughout your Dermalux treatment period.

Dermalux: is it worth it?

So, the big question is — is LED light therapy worth it? Put simply, it’s certainly worth considering. If you’re looking for a painless way to reduce redness and increase the overall texture and condition of your skin, Dermalux can be an excellent treatment.

Did you know that LED phototherapy was originally developed by NASA? It offers some fantastic benefits, including:

  • Faster cell renewal – up to 200% faster
  • Stimulation of collagen-producing fibroblasts
  • Reduction of the enzymes that break down collagen.

With zero recovery time, Dermalux can be a worthwhile investment. Just remember that it can take a couple of months to see results.
