Lifestyle Medicine

At Dr Nestor’s Medical Cosmetic Centre we look at the patient as a whole, taking into account their mental, physical and emotional health. This is why we are delighted to incorporate Lifestyle Medicine into the clinic and bring in Dr Laura Freeman with a wealth of knowledge and experience to head this up.

What is Lifestyle Medicine?

Lifestyle Medicine is the use of a whole food, plant-predominant dietary lifestyle, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connection as a primary therapeutic modality for treatment and reversal of chronic disease.

Our lifestyle is the root cause of many of our health problems. Improving our everyday habits are central to the ‘whole person’ approach to wellness.

Like all branches of medicine, it has firm roots in science based on decades of strong clinical data. Lifestyle medicine is an evidence based approach. It uses the best available science to produce positive clinical outcomes. It can reduce or eliminate medications and produces incredible results for improved health.

Lifestyle medicine incorporates every aspect of your physical and emotional wellbeing. After all, good health is much more meaningful if you are able to enjoy it.

Lifestyle Medicine is a highly effective way to establish and maintain healthy behaviours that improve your quality of life and longevity.

Dr Laura has over 13 years of experience as a medical doctor. Graduating from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 2006 and completed her training as a General Practitioner in 2011, she then qualified as a Family Physician in Toronto and ran her own practice there for over seven years.

After her own diagnosis of cancer a few years ago, her subsequent recovery after treatment was the catalyst for discovering the specialty of Lifestyle Medicine and its lifelong proven benefits. Dr Laura sees herself not as a cancer survivor, but as a cancer thriver! She advocates that you don’t wait for something to go wrong with your health before you make it better but actively work on your health every day to ensure you keep at bay the commonest of diseases that affect us all.

Having always had a strong interest in nutrition, it was only when she became the patient instead of the doctor that it made her re-evaluate and reconsider everything she thought she knew about diet and lifestyle. Dr Laura overhauled her own health habits and after feeling and seeing the overwhelming transformations, was more than compelled to share this with family, friends and patients. Following this revelation Dr Laura specialised and certified as a Lifestyle Medicine Physician.
