Skin Solutions

It’s alive and it cares about you! Clearer, tighter, healthier skin

What do we do to, and for our skin in return for all these benefits? Treat it mean, from the outside and in. We subject it to abuse from the outside in the form of unprotected sun exposure (UVA, UVB, and infrared light), deliberate concentrated light (sun-beds = big NO NO), clog pores with poor make up choices, and neglect to nourish our skin (I could go on, but I think you get the point).

From the inside, we deny it essential ingredients needed to repair itself as a result of poor diet, or even flood it with toxins from bad habits like smoking. Despite all this, our skin continues to work for us, but with time, and repeated sun exposure, skin loses important plumping and firming factors (collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid (HA), just to name a few).

Aged skin is therefore less hydrated and far less elastic. Enter, the dreaded sag and those hard to treat static lines (creases present in the skin from years of folding e.g. around the mouth and forehead), as well as concerns such as skin cancer.

There are many Skin Solutions for healthier skin. The most important step to helping the skin age well is wearing sunscreen, every day, indoors or out. A good sunscreen (SPF 50 that protects against UVA, UVB and infrared light) is therefore hugely important, if not the most important step in skin care, and the best way to slow down the ageing process. Use it everyday, use a lot of it.

With advances in medical technology we it has been possible to stimulate neo-collagenases (the body’s own production of collagen, our ‘tightening factor’) in a variety of ways. This includes Ultrasound, Laser and Radio-Frequency modalities.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is one of the most innovative ways to rejuvenate damaged skin, tackle signs of ageing and even out areas of discolouration in as little as 20 minutes per session. Addressing pigmentation, age spots, sun damage, acne scars and wrinkles, the method restores a refreshed appearance on the face and neckline without the need for excessive downtime.

The Problem
Our facial skin is always exposed, meaning it is more likely to feel the effects of the sun, pollution and general signs of ageing. Brown spots or uneven skin tone on the face can leave even the most pampered complexions looking older, while sun damage or scarring can make it feel seemingly impossible to achieve a healthy glow. Acne scarring in particular can make us look much harsher than we intend.

Wrinkles and fine lines start to appear as early as the mid-twenties, but surgery and strong anti-ageing treatments aren’t suitable for many of those unhappy with their skin. Laser Resurfacing provides an ideal solution to restore the skin in a minimally-invasive way.

The Treatment
We work with Alma Harmony lasers- chosen because of their noticeable results and flexibility around different lifestyles and skin types.

A few days of redness followed by some flaking of the outer skin layers, which will reveal the rejuvenated healthy skin below.

Dubbed the Non-invasive Lift, Ultherapy is the only non-invasive procedure FDA-cleared to lift skin on the neck, under the chin and on the eyebrow. It can also improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.

Ultrasound waves focus energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature for collagen regeneration. The treatment jumpstarts a natural process to produce new collagen.

The device is so powerful that only one treatment is needed to achieve lifting of brows, neck , jowls and even improve the appearance of a sun beaten décolletage (chest area).

No down time, with results visible from two months post procedure and lasting upwards of 18 months.

No Downtime. Natural Results.

Some patients see an initial effect right after their treatment, but the real results appear over 2−3 months as new collagen works to lift and tighten skin on the neck, chin and brow as well as smooth skin on the chest. While Ultherapy won’t duplicate the results of a facelift, it’s a clinically proven non-invasive alternative for those not ready for surgery—and can even be an option for patients who wish to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.

Its time to discuss the dreaded ‘C’ word….CELLULITE. Like it or not, it’s there. It doesn’t have to be. But it is.

Most importantly, what is cellulite?
Clinically speaking, it is persistent subcutaneous fat, pushing under skin which, with age becomes thinner and less elastic, causing dimpling of the skin. It’s less about ‘fat’ and more about poorer skin. Cellulite can be found in thinner and fuller figured individuals, women and men alike, although it’s predominantly found on women’s hips and thighs.

There are many products and treatments that promise to get rid of cellulite but there is little evidence that shows that many of them work well or for long. This is why good clinical evidence is so important.

Is there any ‘down time ‘?
There is no visible down time.

How does IndibaWork?
It is a radio-frequency device which stimulates collagen production and increases the circulation, improving the delivery of nutrients and removal of waste products. The new, elastic collagen therefore tightens skin, making it firmer and more resistant to dimpling from underlying fat. Good bye cellulite!

Can Indiba be combined with other treatments?
Just like going to the gym to do different exercises, collagen stimulation improves by doing different treatments using different modalities that may also address different concerns such as pigmentation, large pores etc. It can also be combined with a Chemical Peels for a clearer complexion.

Thread Veins

Spider veins and varicose veins are practically a rite of passage. As we age, many of us find the jagged purple lines or swollen bluish cords spreading along our thighs and calves. These warped blood vessels affect up to three in 10 adults.

Women tend to be more affected than men. Spider veins are small, twisted blood vessels that are visible through the skin. They may be red, purple, or blue and most often appear on the legs or face.

Side effects may include minor discomfort in the treated area, skin discolouration, and the formation of blisters.

How does laser thread vein removal work?
Laser therapy and intense light pulse (ILP) therapy are used to target and break down the unwanted red veins through a process called photothermolysis. The heat causes scar tissue to form, which eventually closes off the vein. The laser is administered in short bursts to avoid harming the skin.

How will I feel during laser thread vein removal treatment?
You may experience some minor discomfort with laser treatment, but generally it is safe and painless.

Is laser thread vein the right treatment for me?
Dr Nestor will talk to you about your suitability for thread vein removal. The treatment is well suited for the vast majority of patients.
