Prenatal Testing (Harmony Test):
What is the Harmony Test?
This is a non-invasive blood test which can analyses a baby’s DNA. It is an option to screen and assess the risk of Down’s Syndrome (Trisomy 21) and other chromosomal conditions – Trisomy 18 (Edward’s Syndrome) and Trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome). There is also the option to screen for X and Y chromosome conditions and to determine the sex of the baby. It is suitable for most pregnancies including twin pregnancies.
What does the test involve?
The test involves taking a blood sample from the mother after 10 weeks into her pregnancy. The result will be available within 3-5 days. The pregnancy is not at risk of miscarriage or adverse outcomes associated with invasive tests such as amniocentesis. However if a pregnancy is thought to be at high risk it does not mean the baby definitely has one of these chromosomal conditions and a follow up test by an invasive procedure such as Chorionic Villus Sampling or Amniocentesis. There is also a very small risk that not all trisomic features will be detected.
Our GP will discuss the test with you and in the unfortunate event of an abnormal result will offer advice, support and specialist referral.
We offer a private prescription service to help you get the medication you need when you find it difficult to see your GP. We can also provide you with a replacement prescription: If you need replacement medication, If you are on holiday and forgotten or lost your medicine.

Some medicines can also be dispensed directly from the clinic.
